Gavin Reynolds was, again, a standout at the meeting with three wins from the three races, for an amazing 13 firsts for the season and 2 DNF's, out of 15 races.

SPICES CATERING MEETING, 2013

The meeting started in quite cool conditions with fourteen IP starters intermingled with Street cars again for a total effective grid of 25 cars.

QUALIFYING:

Qualifying was held in cool conditions with a shower passing across the track during the qualifying of another class, but it soon dried out enough to allow times to be set.

Gavin Reynolds was flying again and set an excellent time of 63.58 for a first overall in the IP Class and only 0.14 seconds behind a very fast turbocharged street car.  Grant Gellan in his Mk 1 Ford Escort was second fastest  U2L, with another newcomer, Ben Riley 3rd.

The much depleted O2L's saw Tony James in the VE Commodore set the fastest time of 66.54, from Dion Panizza, who managed to get 3 laps in, with Wayne Chrystal chugging along for third.

U1.6L sawTim Riley fastest with a 71.09 fromhis sparring partner Don Simpson and Monica Jakovich

Dion Panizza had another meeting to forget, completing 2 laps.

RACE 1:

U2L's were dominated by Reynolds who finished 30 seconds in front of the second U2L car of Grant Gellan with Jamie McKinnell a further 4 seconds behind.

Geoff Duckworth, who suffered during qualifying due to an air intake tube collapsing, found his feet,  setting  a PB of 67.36 for third, just ahead of newcomer Ben Riley, who had a fastest lap of 67.31...not much between them two.

U1.6L was controlled by Tim Riley from his arch-rival Don Simpson, prevailing by 4 seconds, with Monica Jakovich finishing third, ahead of Brad Wheeler. Jakovich took 2 seconds off her qualifying time which was a dramatic improvement.

Tony James took out the honours for the O2L, 6 seconds ahead of Wayne Chrystal, who keeps his long run of "finishes" going to continue racking up the points, with Jai Philp in the Celica finishing third.  Dion Panizza was out again with engine failure after 2 laps. Joseph Carrucan did not start, obviously with engine issues following qualifying.

Tim Riley continued his dominance over Don Simpson.

RACE 2:

Even though the results show Joseph Carrucan as  DNF, it appears issues prevented him from starting again. Dion got the VE going again and fronted the starter but the car succumbed again after 4 laps causing him more anxiety.

James again comfortably took out the O2L class by some 21 seconds from Chrystal, who is doing all he has to do...finish, with Philp a further 20 seconds behind.

Tim Riley maintained control over Simpson by 9 seconds in the U1.6L, with Brad Wheeler, tonking along down the back, taking third after Jakovich pulled out after 2 laps with a mis-fire later traced back to a faulty coil pack and repaired.

Reynolds took the chequered flag for the combined fleet, easily accounting for his U2L rivals.
McKinnell and Ben Riley had a close fought race in two cars which are almost identical in performance before McKinnell prevailed by 2.5 seconds.  Gellan's car suffered a terminal engine failure to take him out of the race after 5 laps, which was a sad way to finish his comeback meeting. Duckworth was off the pace, also with a mis-firing engine.

Geoff Duckworth took 3.5 seconds out of Ben Riley in the last 3 laps, setting a PB on the way, to edge Riley out of a overall podium finish  for the day.

RACE 3:

Dion Panizza, Joseph Carrucan and Grant Gellan were out, leaving 11 starters for the club "double points" race.

Reynolds made it three on the trot...again... to blitz the IP field and his U2L rivals. McKinnell finished 42 seconds behind for second in the class.  Duckworth, who had taken 3.5 seconds out of Ben Riley in the last three laps, executed a passing move into "old" Kolb on the last lap and held him off over the hill and down the straight and final corner to prevail by .5 sec.

At the risk of repeating myself, James took out the O2L class from Chrystal a lap behind by virtue of the chequered flag falling for the lead cars, but still 20 odd seconds behind and Philp a further 26 seconds behind him.

Once again Tim Riley had the better of Simpson in the last race of the day, comfortably beating him by 4.5 seconds, with Jakovich back in the running for third.

Well done to the three class winners for the day, Tony James, Gavin Reynolds and Tim Riley each with 3 wins.
