![]() The annual Tander Trophy meeting was held on Sunday, 10th August on a fine and sunny day. With originally 24 cars entered it was sad to see some pull out at the last minute. Jamie McKinnell was a noticeable absentee, having blown his motor the day before at tuning,Ed Resera a "no-show," presumably with engine issues and Mark Jewell a late withdrawal. We still had 20 cars for the day including the six Excels, with 8 Over 2 litre, 1 Under 2 litre, and 4 Under 1600cc. Brad Wheeler fronted in his new Honda Civic and Sean Ferrall presented his Diahatsu Carade with it's garish day glow orange finish. ![]() The July meeting got under way on a cold morning but no threat of rain was evident. Despite the two late withdrawals of Grant Gellan and Jamie McKinnell with mechanical issues a good field of 20 prepared to race. Work and other commitments prevented at least another six cars from competing. The addition of the WA Hyundai Excel Championship Racing series starters bolstered the grid with six beautifully presented cars turning up for their introduction to circuit racing in "closed cars," with the drivers coming from go karts, at which they showed themselves to be extremely talented. ![]() The third meeting at Barbagallo was held on Saturday, 7th June, and saw one of the biggest fields for some time. Of 18 starters for qualifying, 15 lasted for the last race and it was good to see the attrition rate down at last, apart from the unfortunates from earlier in the day. ![]() The second meeting of the year, the Autumn Classic Race Meeting was held at Wanneroo on the 27th April, 2014. The weather was intermittent showers and moderate winds. Sixteen IP cars fronted for the day, with Bryan Newell and Ed Resera fronting for the first time. They had mixed results with Ed retiring early with oil pressure problems and Bryan winning two of the three races. ![]() The meeting was held in fine weather with a stiff easterly breeze at the driver's back as they came over the hill into turn 7. Seventeen nominations was reduced to fifteen starters on the day with two late withdrawals due to last minute mechanical issues. Sean Ferrall fronted for his first meeting in two years as did Nigel Wilson in the ex Mike Kennedy VY. ![]() The meeting was held on Sunday, July 28th as part of the Winter Race Meeting, and a taste of Winter was had with rains throughout the week washing the track clean, creating very slippery conditions. Then a period of beautiful sunshine to warm everyone up for two races, followed by a few showers which returned the surface to its very slippery state. We had 16 starters for the day with eight O2L, four U2L and four U1.6L ![]() The race meeting on Saturday, 6th July, was held on the first day of the Perth Historic Race Meeting, with WASCC deciding to complete the entire IP and Street Car meeting on the one day, which was a great move on their behalf. The meeting saw the first appearance of the Matt Cherry driven Starlet in a competition and the little machine was fast. Matt admitted that he is still coming to grips with the different driving style necessary for this vehicle as against the Monaro but all indications is that it will get faster and faster, already doing creditable 63s. Sadly a mechanical issue forced her to retire in race 1 |
