AGM 2014
The AGM was held on 22nd January, 2014 and was attended by 20 personnel.
There were some issues which arose at the AGM which will have an effect on our Club for the 2014 season.
As at the time of the AGM we had $21,500 cash on hand, which included $5,000 from healthway Smokefree. It is expected that two more small sponsor’s will contribute prior to the start of the season.
YOKOHAMA TYRE REBATE:
I have asked in a previous email for members to supply me with details of any control tyres they have bought since January 1st, 2012. So far three people have chosen to respond and even with the three there is about $400 owing to the club. We have something like 28 people who must have purchased tyres in the period.
There is the potential for a significant windfall to the Club and I expect all members to do their bit, albeit they may be inconvenienced for a moment, and get the data to me sooner rather than later. In four weeks time I will publish a list of those who haven’t taken the time to respond.
IPRA NATIONALS:
We believe that we will be hosting the Nationals in 2016, depending on whether NT hold their hand up for next year. The confirmation question will be asked at the national delegates meeting in Sydney in march and we should have a definitive answer back.
2014 SCORING SYSTEM:
There was talk by members during the 2013 season about the narrowness of the gap between place getters using the NASCAR system of scoring in our Club championship, which is a system used to score for fields up to 70 cars. The margin between 1st and 2nd is 7% and 2nd and 3rd and so on is 3%. Other scoring systems including that used by WASCC has a differential of around 25%, 20%, 15% etc. down the line. The logic of the NASCAR system was explained and all members present chose to stay with the NASCAR scoring system for 2014.
CHALLENGING UP:
I will address this in two stages. Members overwhelmingly voted that in the Club championship, cars can only score points in the class in which they are entered. Last year Under 1.6 litre cars scored points in the Under 2 litre class as well. This was a legacy of them not having their own class prior to last year but the practice was carried forward despite their own class being officially recognized.
However, the members also overwhelmingly voted that there should be another Club championship, and that will be for an Outright Champion.
The outright points will be awarded for positions across the line and all classes are eligible for points in that category.
WASCC Championship points will remain the same, they have not changed their protocols.
In summary, in our Club Championships, we will have the following outcomes;
· Outright Champion, determined by “across the line” positions at the end of each race.
· Over 2 litre, cars which are over 2 litre and under the maximum of 6 litres..we anticipate up to 14 V8’s in this group.
· Under 3 litre, cars between 2001cc and 3000cc..it is anticipated that there will be three contenders in this class.
· Under 2 litre, cars between 1601cc and 2000 cc.
· Under 1600cc, self explanatory.
The only time a car will get points in the next category up is if there are insufficient starters in their specific class.
Before we start crying out and stating the bleeding obvious we have to accept the apparent misnomer in naming as the catagories traditionally are. We all know what is meant by the terms and that’s the way 2014 will be..otherwise we can call them Class 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 with the explanatory criteria as above.
I don’t accept that there will be issues on the track as a result of the inclusion of the Outright category and if there are then the matter will be addressed quickly and effectively, under the general rules of racing, our code of conduct and any other system available to your committee to nip it in the bud before it even gets past first base.
CONSTITUTION:
The revamping of our constitution, as per the document sent out for all to perused, was accepted and the document now represents more accurately the way we have been operating over the years.
V8 SUPERCAR SUPPORT RACE:
We have submitted an expression of interest to partake in the meeting as a support class in May. I will advise members of any outcome as soon as I am made aware.
RACE FORMAT FOR 2014:
I will be submitting a proposal to WASCC to reflect what was voted on at two AGM’s now but knocked back by Street Cars last year.
Members have voted that the race format preferred will be as follows;
· 1st race, 8 laps, grid positions in order of qualifying.
· 2nd race, 12 laps, reverse grid from finish positions race 1.
· 3rd race, 6 lap sprint, grid positions determined from points scored races 1 and 2.
ELIGBILITY OFFICER/S:
We intend looking for an external EO to monitor the legalities and compliances for the 2014 season. There is one who has been presented to Committee with a wealth of experience as a rally scrutineer and mechanical qualifications and who is already familiarizing himself with the Class 3J regulations specifically and sub regulations and other rules as applies to our class. On face value this sounds ideal and we will keep you up to date as we progress.
FAILING TO DISPLAY CLUB SPONSOR’S LOGOS:
There was a distinct lack of application by some members last year to meet their obligations to carry sponsor’s logos on their vehicle. At the last race meeting there were ten cars which weren’t carrying logos, including the windscreen banners and that’s not good enough.
It is a timely reminder that cars are obliged to carry sponsor’s logos as part of their class compliance.
It is intended to follow the standard of IPRANSW and an initial warning will be given to cars in breach of this requirement. If the car does not become compliant from that point on, the car scores no points.
This rule will not apply, naturally, where there are extenuating circumstances, such as replacing windows, bumpers, doors etc to continue racing at the particular meeting, or is the sign must make way for any other signage ordered upon us by the racing body responsible for the meeting. If IPRAWA doesn’t have the signage available to fit, it is their error and no penalty will occur.
IPRAWA will ensure that sponsor’s signage is available, and positioning is advised to each car prior to competition.
That brought to an end the well attended meeting and I would like to thank the members who took the time to attend and discuss issues which will carry us forward. It was a good, positive start and I know of five new cars so far which will be joining us this year, including two more V8s, so hopefully those plans keep rolling on.
SPONSOR’S EVENING:
The sponsor’s evening was held on Saturday last and was well attended by 10 cars and around 80- 85 people. Conditions were perfect and it was a great night.
Thanks to Jason and Tracey Wilson for donating a heap of bottled water for the guests and it was all gobbled up, and for those who helped with the food and cleaning up later.
If anyone has any photos from the night, please forward them to me and I’ll get something posted on the web. I’ve only got a heap of ours and I would like to break them up and give a bigger cross section.
I will continue to keep everyone up to speed as we head into the season, which I anticipate will be a good one.
Good luck to Jason Wilson and Matt Cherry who are heading off to Bathurst to take part in the IPRA support race for the 12 hour event, and I believe Matt may get a start in the 12 hour event in a left hand drive, turbocharged, sequential geared, Fiat. Best wishes guys.
I will post this letter on our web page, so if anyone can contact Brad Wheeler, Nigel Wilson, etc. or if you know anyone who hasn’t read this, please direct them there.
All the best, get the cars running, and let’s have a great start to the season.
Cheers.
